Understanding Eating Disorders: A Compassionate Approach

Eating disorders are not just about food—they’re about coping mechanisms, self-image, and deeply rooted emotions. At Amy Robbins Counseling, we recognize the profound impact that these disorders can have on both physical and emotional well-being. Whether it’s anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or any other form, we approach each case with empathy and understanding.

Meet Sarah Browning: Your Guide to Healing

Sarah Browning, our dedicated therapist and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the table. Trained in Intuitive Eating, Sarah believes in a compassionate, weight-inclusive approach to recovery.

Intuitive Eating, developed by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, is a self-care eating framework that integrates instinct, emotion, and rational thought. With over 100 studies validating its effectiveness, Intuitive Eating offers a validated assessment scale and a path to reclaiming a healthy relationship with food and body.

The Principles of Intuitive Eating: Nurturing Body and Mind

I am thrilled to offer Intuitive Eating counseling to my clients, having completed my training as a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. This training is deeply meaningful to me because intuitive eating provided me with the tools to heal my own relationship with food and body image.

Intuitive eating is centered on 10 principles:

  1. Reject the Diet Mentality
  2. Honor Your Hunger
  3. Make Peace with Food
  4. Challenge the Food Police
  5. Feel Your Fullness
  6. Discover the Satisfaction Factor
  7. Cope with Your Emotions Without Using Food
  8. Respect Your Body
  9. Exercise—Feel the Difference
  10. Honor Your Health—Gentle Nutrition

This approach is grounded in self-compassion, reconnection with inner wisdom, and respect for the body, moving away from self-objectification. Intuitive eating aligns with the Health at Every Size (HAES) philosophy, and I welcome individuals of all sizes and backgrounds to my practice.

It would be an honor to explore how intuitive eating can help free you from diet culture and bring peace to your relationship with food. If you’re curious about this approach, I invite you to reach out to me for a consultation.
